Ingredients:
- 8 oz pasta (your choice, like penne or fusilli)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
- Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Brown the Beef: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Add the Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Tomatoes and Spices: Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Add oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Combine: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine, ensuring the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
- Serve: Divide the pasta among plates. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
